Seeking Music Director, Monteux School & Music Festival The Monteux School and Music Festival was founded in 1943 by Pierre Monteux and his wife Doris Hodgkins Monteux, as a summer school for conductors and orchestra musicians in Hancock, Maine, inspired in part by Monteux’s earlier conducting classes in France. After his death Charles Bruck served as the second music director, and in 1995 Bruck’s longtime associate Michael Jinbo was named the school’s third music director. With Maestro Jinbo’s recent passing the school is now seeking its fourth music director. The Monteux School continues to operate on the foundation built by its founder.
